VMware has launched its appreciation award (like Microsoft MVP) today! On the landing page (see here), you can learn more about the award.

The award will be given to members of the VMware-community who’ve been very active in the past year. These activities include:

* Helping others to learn about virtualization and successfully deploy VMware solutions;
* Active in the online or offline community of VMware users (VMware Community/Forum, VMUG, own blog).

Award recipients can be listed publicly on VMware’s site and use the VMware vExpert logo in email signatures and blogs. All VMware vExperts will also get a gift and certificate from VMware, access to a private community, and be considered for other exclusive events and offerings from VMware.

Nominations will be accepted through midnight PST, February 6, 2009. You can nominate yourself or someone else with this form. VMware customers, partners, and users of our free products are all eligible. An award committee made up of VMware employees will make their selections and announce the award recipients by the end of February, 2009.

— Update:

John Troyer has written a clarification about the vExpert award. Please read his blogpost here: Are you a VMware vExpert? Announcing a new community award.
