VMworld 2012: #EUC3319 – VMware Workstation Innovations

In this session, Jason Joel demoed the new VMware Workstation version, 9.

As always, I have the marketing video for you even before VMware has released it, so it’s hot off the press:

#VMworld #EUC1823: Another Horizon Mobile demo

I recorded another demo showing some different features of Horizon Mobile at the #EUC1823 break-out session

In this session, some more details about the product were given.

Most interestingly, they revealed some details about the architecture and engineering details. In short, the Android version is a VMware Workstation port, while the iOS version operates on a higher layer and uses ThinApp packaging to address security and isolation. Since iOS is already very secure, and access to the underlying operating system is not possible, Horizon Mobile for iOS is simply application virtualization with added app and device management such as policies. For Android, true hosted virtualization is used to protect the corporate data and apps. Android is inherently less secure, and by using a VMM and a separate virtual machine, more control over the system is possible.

#VMworld Tueday keynote: VMware Horizon suite demo

I recorded a video of yesterday’s Horizon suite demo at the Tuesday technical keynote by VMware’s CTO, dr. Steve Herrod:

They also demoed some usability improvements in touch interfaces and View (Windows) desktops:

#VMworld #EUC1822: VMware Horizon Mobile Android and Apple iOS demo

Regular readers of this blog know I’ve been closely following the developments around VMware’s Horizon Mobile product. I’ve posted a demo video from last year’s VMworld here: VMware Horizon Mobile Demonstration Video (again!)

In yesterday’s keynote, Steve Herrod introduced the ability to run Horizon Mobile on Apple’s iOS, i.e. the iPhone (and technically, the iPad, too).

I attended VMworld session #EUC1822, and was able to record a nice demo on Horizon Mobile running on both a Samsung Galaxy S3 (Android) and an Apple iPhone 4s (iOS). I’d like to thank Courtney Skay and Hoofar Razavi for their continued efforts on this awesome product!

Check it out:

I also recorded a bit of the demonstration during the Tuesday keynote with Steve Herrod:

VMworld ’12 CTO Keynote liveblog

Steve Herrod took the stage, talking once again about consumerization of IT and mobilizing the workforce.

Device Management

Steve introduced Wanova’s technology, Mirage, to the public. He talks about the features and possiblities of the product, especially for the offline user use case. The other use case Steve mentioned is a XP-to-7 migration.

Demo of Wanova Mirage

Vittorio is back from his holiday, and it’s time to upgrade his XP laptop to Windows 7. With a bunch of jokes, he demonstrates the migration.

Suddenly, he falls and his laptop breaks. Thank God, he has his tablet with him, and IT enables him to use the tablet without losing any data. Vittorio is saved

[Dutch] vLunch during VMworld 2012 San Francisco!

During VMworld 2012 in San Francisco, Viktor van den Berg will be hosting a lunch especially for all Dutch VMUG, vCommunity, vMaffia and vDutchmen members. Belgians are welcome, too! The vLunch will take place around noon on Wednesday. Respond in the Dutch VMUG forum (direct link) if you want to attend, too.

Original message by Viktor van den Berg:

Eind augustus vindt VMworld 2012 in San Francisco plaats!

  • Waar? VMworld USA 2012 in San Francisco
  • Hoe laat?

:D :D

Tot de 29e @VMworld 2012!
