VMworld Europe ’09 Party (updated!)

Yesterday evening was the big party at the Rotunda at VMworld Europe ’09 in Cannes. All 4700 attendees were invited to the party. There were loads of arcade games, foosballtables. Also, the food and drinks served were amazing. After a couple of hours, a coverband took over the stage and played the best partymusic ever!

I used my new Flip MinoHD to record some nice HD-quality footage. I’ve uploaded most of them (about 30 of the original 90 movies, totalling 4GB) to Vimeo. Check out the videos below.

vWire is flippin’ great!

I’ve been hanging with the vWire guys (Steve Beaver and Karen Hepner) a couple of times this week. After having dinner on monday evening, hanging out at some bars and Steve and me celebrating getting the vExpert Award, I thought it was time to swing by their booth on the Solution Exchange and find out what vWire is all about. Unfortunately, the product is still under heavy development and I had to sign a NDA to get the inside scoop, they did give me loads of goodies.

VMware vCenter Data Recovery (screenshots updated)

At VMworld Europe ’09 there’s a opportunity to visit the hands-on labs. One of the labs shows the new backup and recovery solution from VMware, VMware vCenter Data Recovery. This is a disk-based tool, completely integrated with VMware vCenter Server. It supports data de-deduplication out of the box.

A Virtual Appliance does all the actual backup and recovery work, so you’ll need to think of this VA as the ‘engine’ of the product. It is managed via a vCenter Server plugin.
