we’ve been PHD users for about 2 years now and couldn’t be happier. we use it for a 6 ESX host cluster and it’s saved our butts a couple of times.
i’m also usng the free one fora test ESX box for full backups, works great. the dedup product rocks btw

Geoff. PHD Virtual only offers a thirty day trial of its esXpress software these days. Older versions aren’t available anymore.

Tom, I couldn’t agree more. esXpress is very simple yet extremely usefull software for those not willing to pay thousands of dollars for backupsoftware that just isn’t good enough.

While it is true that the free version is rather limited, it offers great value for money

One of the best features of esXpress is, like you say, the ability to restore a backup using FOSS (Free and Open Source Software): any Linux system will do the trick

esXpress will support ESXi in the 3.5 release, due out in early 2009.

Extremely reliable software, it “just works.”

There is a free version of esXpress which does only full backups, and limits how fast the backup goes, which are small tradeoffs in the long run.

Support is outstanding, I have almost always had same-day personal responses from support staff.

The CLI is menu-based and it really is easier than it looks.

They never take away your ability to restore from an esXpress backup.

Since ESX isn´t free why bother?

esXpress dont support “free” ESXi.
